미 연준 "2022년까지 금리 인상 없을 것" 전망

The Federal Reserve on Wednesday projected a solid rebound for the U.S. economy next year amid optimism that the worst of the coronavirus pandemic's disruptions has passed.

미국 연방준비제도(Fed)는 수요일 최악의 코로나바이러스 대유행 사태가 일단락됐다는 낙관적 전망 속에 내년 미국 경제의 건실한 반등을 예고했다.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell however cautioned that the outlook remains highly uncertain, and both the central bank and Congress may have to do more to boost the recovery.

그러나 제롬 파월 연준 의장은 이러한 전망은 여전히 매우 불확실하며, 중앙은행과 의회 모두 경기 회복을 위해 더 많은 노력을 해야 할지도 모른다고 경고했다.

At the conclusion of its two-day meeting, the Fed's policy-setting Federal Open Markets Committee (FOMC) confirmed it will keep the benchmark interest rate at zero until the recovery is underway.

연준의 정책을 결정하는 연방공개시장위원회(FOMC)는 이틀간의 회의 끝에 회복이 진행될 때까지 기준금리를 제로 수준으로 유지하겠다고 확정했다.

"The coronavirus outbreak is causing tremendous human and economic hardship across the United States and around the world," the FOMC statement said.

FOMC는 성명을 통해 "코로나바이러스 발병으로 미국 전역과 전 세계에서 엄청난 인적·경제적 어려움이 발생하고 있다"고 밝혔다.

"The ongoing public health crisis will weigh heavily on economic activity, employment and inflation in the near term, and poses considerable risks to the economic outlook over the medium term," the central bank warned.

미 연준은 "현재 진행 중인 공중보건 위기는 단기적으로 경제활동과 고용, 물가 상승에 큰 부담이 될 것이며 중기적으로는 경제전망에 상당한 위험을 초래할 것"이라고 경고했다.

Despite nearly two million cases and 112,000 deaths from COVID-19 in the U.S., there is evidence the economy may be rebounding from its bottom.

미국의 코로나19 감염자가 200만명, 사망자는 11만2천명임에도 불구하고, 경제가 바닥을 찍고 회복되고 있다는 징후가 보이고 있다.

The employment report last week showed that 2.5 million jobs were added in May, but more than 20 million people were still out of work.

지난주 미국 고용지표에 따르면 지난 5월 250만개의 일자리가 늘어났지만, 여전히 2천만명 이상이 일자리를 잃은 것으로 나타났다.

As a result, the FOMC will keep the key rate at zero "until it is confident that the economy has weathered recent events and is on track to achieve its maximum employment and price stability goals." (AFP)

이에 따라 FOMC는 경제가 코로나 사태를 극복하고 고용 최대화 및 물가 안정화 목표를 달성하기 위한 정상 궤도에 올랐다는 확신이 들 때까지 기준금리를 제로로 유지할 계획이다.
